Small vs Large Laptop Bags for Women – Size and Weight Do Matter!

First, let me tell you why I had this crazy idea of comparing small and large laptop bags: for two years now, I’ve been using my 15 inch laptop for everything – it was my desktop replacement and I also carried it with me everywhere I went. I’m a workaholic, I admit, and I usually try to use every spare moment I have for my work.

Actually, the title of my post should have been – ‘Big Laptops Vs Small Laptops’, but since my blog is about laptop bags, I’ll try to adapt this subject to the current necessities .

So, I was carrying my heavy laptop (it weights 6 pounds without the bag and all its accessories) until I began to have sore arms and shoulders all the time (I usually use a stylish messenger bag, but it’s still heavy!). That’s it, I told myself. I’m buying a netbook!

And so I did! I bought a cute 10 inch baby netbook exclusively for on-the-go writing. My 15 inch old friend is now resting in its usual place on the desk most of the time, and my little new friend goes with me everywhere. It’s an incredibly easy and practical system, believe me!

Now, let’s finally get to the topic of this article: laptop bags. I have a collection of 6 large laptop bags for women (the outfits of my 15 inch laptop). I consider ‘large’ all laptop bags that exceed the 14 inch limit. I have a black messenger bag (it goes with everything, that’s why it’s black), a beige tote (it’s elegant and I wear it at special occasions), a pink tote (for matching my ‘girlie’ outfits), a backpack (sometimes it’s very useful, even if I’m not a student anymore), a sleeve with floral prints (I use it when I want to put my laptop in a simple purse) and a rolling laptop bag (for trips and vacations). My bags are all very functional and stylish, but carrying them around is a little bit complicated, first of all because of the weight! The size can also be an impediment sometimes, especially when you’re traveling in an overcrowded bus and you’re trying to keep an eye on your pockets, purse and laptop at the same time.

I’ve tried giving up on my purses and storing all my stuff in the laptop bag. Even if all my bags have many extra pockets and compartments, in the end I gave up on this idea – it just didn’t work for me! Personally, I think that carrying a large laptop bag for women can be easy only in one case – when the bag is bigger than the laptop (in this case, it will be relatively light) and you’re using all the extra space for laptop accessories and all the other things that a woman carries in her purse.

On the other hand, it’s much easier to use a small bag – both as a purse and as a laptop case. If it has enough pockets and if the laptop is not too heavy (10’’ – 14’’), then it has to be a pleasant and versatile experience!

The thing is – I didn’t buy a bag for my little laptop yet! I just bought the netbook last week and I’ve been carrying it in a little purse with matching parameters, but I realize that it’s not enough for protecting my gadget properly. So now I plan to begin a real hunt for small laptop bags for women and find out everything about them!

As a conclusion, I will say one thing: size and weight DO matter, especially as far as laptops and laptop bags for women are concerned. Maybe for men the situation is different (after all, they’re supposed to be strong ), but for us, girls, heavy weight is simply not the answer!

That’s why I decided to dedicate my several next blog posts to my quest of finding a suitable case for my little 10 inch netbook. I plan to seriously browse the online market, compare designs, brands, colors and prices and write reviews in the process. I hope to enjoy this hunt!
